Kupwara, Nov 08: In a bid to enlighten taxpayers about the provisions of the Income Tax Act and the importance of paying taxes honestly and voluntarily, an interaction-cum-awareness program was organized in the conference hall of the DC office in Kupwara district.
The event saw the participation of DC Kupwara Ayushi Sudan Deputy District Officers (DDOs) and other individuals from the district.
MP Singh, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar, officiated the program and addressed the participants, stressing the significant role taxpayers play in the nation’s development by contributing their taxes diligently.
During the event, members of the Income Tax Bar Association and prominent assesses were made aware of the importance of accurate self-assessment to avoid penal interest under sections 234B and 234C of the Income Tax Act, 1961. They were encouraged to calculate and pay advance tax correctly to comply with tax regulations.
The Income Tax Department also outlined plans for future outreach programs to educate taxpayers about tax-related matters. Various trade organizations and Income Tax Bar associations pledged their support to participate in these initiatives.
Participants engaged in discussions on various aspects of the Income Tax Act and expressed their satisfaction with the responses and clarifications provided by department officers. The employees expressed their gratitude to the Income Tax Department and requested more such interaction cum awareness programs in other parts of the small towns. They emphasized the need to keep taxpayers updated about amendments and provisions of the Income Tax Act to encourage their participation in the nation-building process.
Singh, the Principal Commissioner, mentioned that similar outreach programs were conducted last year as per the directives of the Finance Minister of India. These programs address the concerns and issues taxpayers face, including employees and businesspersons. The department values feedback and suggestions from taxpayers, and it is actively working to implement these suggestions to provide a more seamless tax-paying experience.
Furthermore, the Income Tax Department is working diligently to reach the grassroots level, addressing taxpayers’ issues promptly and educating them about the consequences of tax evasion. With modern technology, tax evasion is being monitored comprehensively across various departments, and it is essential for taxpayers not to fall victim to anyone advocating tax evasion.
Singh concluded by emphasizing that tax evasion is a crime, and the department is committed to ensuring that taxpayers are educated and aware of their obligations to contribute to the nation’s growth. The interaction cum awareness program was deemed a success, promoting transparency and accountability in the tax system.
