Ganderbal, Oct 01: In a concerted effort to maintain the pristine beauty of the popular tourist destination of Sonamarg, a series of events were organized as part of the Swachita Pakhwada campaign. The main event, which took place near the main market of Sonamarg area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal District, witnessed the active participation of hundreds of stakeholders from various sectors.
The Sonamarg Development Authority, in collaboration with departments including Tourism, JKTDC, Forest, and Police, joined forces with stakeholders from trade, transport, hospitality, and other sectors to launch a massive sanitation and cleanliness drive. Participants diligently tackled the accumulation of polythene, plastic, food wrappers, and other solid waste that had marred the charm of the area.
In addition to the sanitation efforts, a plantation drive was conducted in the Youth Hostel area of Sonamarg. The event saw the planting of coniferous trees, aligning with the region’s commitment to environmental conservation. Collaborating with the Forest Department and other stakeholders, a sanitation drive also took place, targeting various parts of the region.
Hoteliers played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of these initiatives. They, along with the Sonamarg Development Authority and Tourism Department, organized a sanitation drive throughout the hotel area, along the roadside, and across the lush green meadows. This collaborative effort aimed to maintain the overall cleanliness and hygiene of the tourist destination.
These endeavors did not go unnoticed, as a substantial number of tourists bore witness to the events and expressed their appreciation for the proactive approach taken by the stakeholders in preserving the natural beauty of Sonamarg.
The impact of the cleanliness drive was significant, with a substantial quantity of solid waste collected. To ensure responsible disposal, this waste was transported to the Solid Waste Management Plant in Sarbal for further processing.
