Jammu, Oct 27: The grand closing ceremony of the 2nd Rajinder Magotra Basketball Tournament was held on Sunday at the Mini Stadium Parade Ground, Jammu. Organized by the Rajinder Magotra Sports Welfare Club, the event saw a thrilling finale as STC Warriors triumphed over RBC in a nail-biting match with a final score of 101-99. The tournament, which has garnered significant attention in the local sporting community, is held in honor of the late Rajinder Magotra, an advocate of sports and youth development.
The chief guest for the event, Yudhvir Sethi, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Jammu East, graced the occasion along with the guest of honor, Ranjit Kalra, Member of the J&K Sports Council. Both dignitaries lauded the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by the teams throughout the tournament and emphasized the importance of promoting sports at the grassroots level.
In the final showdown, STC Warriors showcased exceptional skills, narrowly defeating RBC in a contest that kept the spectators on the edge of their seats. Jaskirat Singh emerged as the hero of the match, delivering an impressive performance with 38 points and earning the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.
Speaking at the ceremony, Yudhvir Sethi congratulated the organizers—Sushil Sagjotra, Varinder Dabgotra, Vaneet Pangotra, Sachin Bhamwra, and Mohan Singh—along with the family members of Rajinder Magotra, for their continued dedication in keeping the legacy of Magotra alive through sports. He emphasized the need for more such tournaments to inspire the younger generation to pursue excellence in sports.
As part of the celebrations, senior basketball players and coaches were also honored for their contributions to the sport. This gesture reinforced the club’s commitment to recognizing the pivotal role of mentors in shaping the future of sports in the region.
The Rajinder Magotra Sports Welfare Club expressed their gratitude to all participating teams, coaches, and supporters, affirming their commitment to organizing more sporting events in the future. The club continues to work towards creating platforms for young athletes to showcase their talent and carry forward the sporting spirit exemplified by Rajinder Magotra.
