Jammu, Feb 01: To provide advanced medical treatment to patients at the State Cancer Institute in Jammu, the government has placed import orders for high-tech machines and equipment from European countries and America.
“The process for acquiring the high-tech machines and equipment from European countries and America for the State Cancer Institute at Jammu has been initiated by the J&K government,” Principal, Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H), Jammu, Dr Ashutosh Gupta informed Rising Kashmir.
The Principal, Dr Ashutosh, is also the Head of Oncology Department. The high-tech machines and equipment which have been ordered by the J&K government to foreign countries include, PET-Scan, Digital Radiography, Brachey, UltraSound Doppler, Linear Accelerator, and some others.
As of now, the one hundred bedded State Cancer Institute at Jammu has not been able to move beyond OPD services despite the passage of more than 10 months due to non-availability of high-tech machines and equipment to provide quality health services to the cancer patients.
Around 30-40 patients are being attended to by the doctors in OPD at the State Cancer Institute at Jammu on a daily basis.
With the arrival of high-tech machines and equipment from foreign countries, the cancer patients not only from J&K but also from neighbouring states will get advanced treatment at Jammu’s State Cancer Institute, the Principal said.
There are 3 Operation Theatres (OTs) in the high-tech State Cancer Institute at Jammu but none of these has been made functional due to non-availability of different machines.
Once the required machines and equipment are made available all the OTs will become fully functional and cancer patients will get advanced treatment.
