SSM College of Engineering, Paras Hospital Sgr observe World Drug Day

Srinagar, June 26: World Drug Day-2023 was observed in SSM College of Engineering in collaboration with Paras Hospital Srinagar on Monday with the aim of raising awareness about the drug addiction problem and promoting efforts to combat drug abuse.
The theme for World Drug Day 2023 was “People first: stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention”, highlighting the need to prioritize the well-being and dignity of individuals affected by drug abuse. This theme emphasizes the importance of eradicating stigma and discrimination associated with drug addiction and focusing on prevention strategies.
Welcoming the chief guest and other participants, Dr. Sajad Hussain Din, Principal of the college expressed the hope that holding such events has a positive impact on the students.
Khurshid Ahmad Ganai (IAS Retd), the former Advisor to J&K Governor, graced the occasion as Chief Guest while Dr. Jan Mohammad Beigh, Consultant Cardiologist of Paras Hospital Srinagar, the management, senior functionaries, staff members and students of the college participated in the event that provided an opportunity for the college students, faculty members and other staff members to come together against the menace of drug addiction.
Speaking on the occasion, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai stressed upon students to stay away from the menace of drugs and instead strive for better physical and mental well-being by taking part in sports activities in addition to their regular studies. He spoke about the menace of drug addiction and the need to curb it in order to ensure a healthy and peaceful society.
“By organizing this event, the college is playing a vital role in fostering action and cooperation to achieve a world free of drug abuse. Such initiatives help in creating awareness about the risks and consequences of drug addiction, while also providing information on preventive measures,” he said.
Dr. Jan Mohammad Beigh Consultant Cardiologist speaking on the occasion explained the medical aspects of Drug addiction and effective ways to get rid of this menace.
Mrs. Dilafrose Qazi, Vice-Chairperson of the College advised the students to be conscious of the ill effects of drug addiction and keep a constant vigil so as to ensure a drug-free society.
A number of students from various Departments also participated in the debate about drug addiction and strategies to combat it effectively.
Overall, the collaboration between SSM College of Engineering and Paras Hospital Srinagar demonstrates their commitment to addressing the drug abuse problem and promoting a healthier society. It’s important to continue such efforts to raise awareness, educate the community, and support those affected by drug addiction.
Prof. (Dr.) N.A. Shah presented a vote of thanks to the participants for sparing their precious time to make this event successful.
