Srinagar, Jan 09: The District Hospital Handwara on Monday achieved acclaim by successfully carrying out the first thrombolysis on a patient with a stroke at the health institution.
Thrombolysis, also known as thrombolytic therapy, is a treatment procedure used to dissolve dangerous clots in the blood, particularly in the case of stroke.
Divulging details, the in-charge medical superintendent of District Hospital Handwara, Dr Aijaz, told Rising Kashmir the first stroke thrombolysis in Kashmir was done in District Hospital Handwara.
He said the patient presented with a history of weakness on left side of the body with slurring of speech. “The case was discussed with save brain group neurologists, recently made through DHS Kashmir.”
Later the patient was referred to SKIMS Soura in 108 Ambulance for further management with stable vitals.
It is important to note here that the hospital has performed some major surgeries in the recent past that were never conducted by any district hospitals across the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
