SSG Road declared open for one-way traffic for LMVs from tomorrow

Authorities on Friday decided to allow light motor vehicles towards Kargil from Srinagar along Srinagar Sonamarg road.

 

According to an order a copy of which lies with Rising Kashmir said Pursuant to the feedback from various stakeholders and meeting between Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and Ladakh on the subject on 17-03-2023. it is hereby notified for information of general public/stakeholders that the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri Road is hereby declared open for one way traffic, for Light Goods Vehicles (Not for passenger traffic) vehicular movement w.e.f. 18-03-2023 subject to the following conditions:

 

The Traffic movement on 18-03-2023 on the SSG Road shall be upward viz; Kashmir to Ladakh and vice versa with cut off timing (DC Ganderbal/ Kargil and SSP Traffic Rural) 

 

All these vehicles shall be allowed from Sonamarg at 6:00 am hrs and 8:30 am from Minamarg Kargil and are advised to carry an anti-skid chain to gain more grip on the slippery road.”

 

They said that Every Friday SSG road shall be maintenance day and no traffic shall be allowed on the axis, however District Authorities shall consider weather advisory on daily basis before allowing the traffic.

 

Movement. (DC Ganderbal/Kargil & Director, IMD). 5. Establishment of traffic Check-post at Sonamarg (SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir). 6. Recovery Van at Sonamarg and along the upper alignment of Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri Road, the order reads.

 

For removal of stranded vehicles (Chief Engineer, MED/ARTO Ganderbal). 7. Operationalization of weighing bridge at Sonamarg. It shall ensure that weight of the vehicles bound to Ladakh has been done positively well before one day. (RTO Kashmir / ARTO

 

Director, Indian Metrological Department shall coordinate with SASE, shall issue and share avalanche warnings. IT. Satellite phones shall be made available in Deputy Commissioner Office / SSP Office

 

Ganderbal/ Kargil for their emergency use. 12. Passes for traffic movement of vehicles for emergency movement such as ambulances or Govt.

 

Vehicles shall be issued by DC Ganderbal / Kargil on case to case consideration. The condition of the road will be reviewed again after 15 days.

 

Further it shall be ensured that vehicles be preferably 4×4 or mechanically sound and vehicles should not be overloaded and should carry load as per permissible tonnage. 

 

Also drivers driving the vehicles should be experienced and familiar with the said hilly road. The movement of specified vehicles should go in convoy properly escorted from head and tail end..
