Srinagar, Jan 08: A raging fire erupted at the Traders store in Bagh Nund Singh Colony, situated opposite the 10 Bn SSB HQ on Monday. The incident, which occurred around 1155 hrs, threatened to escalate into a catastrophe, but swift action by the 10 Bn SSB personnel prevented a potential disaster.
Responding with commendable promptness, the 10 Bn SSB personnel rushed to the site armed with firefighting equipment, teams, and water tankers. Their immediate intervention saw the successful evacuation of trapped individuals and the salvage of valuable property, including garment stores and highly flammable materials. Working in tandem with local residents and later assisted by the Fire Service personnel of Batmaloo, the SSB personnel battled the flames using water and foam.
Amidst the chaos, the SSB personnel also efficiently managed the crowd gathered at the incident site, ensuring the smooth flow of traffic to facilitate the movement of fire service vehicles. The relentless efforts continued until approximately 1300 hrs, finally bringing the fierce fire under control. They meticulously scoured the area for any remnants of fire and meticulously checked the electricity connections, identifying an electrical short circuit as the probable cause of the blaze.
Although there were no reported casualties, extensive damage to clothing, furniture, and miscellaneous stores was evident. The ferocity of the fire posed a significant risk of spreading to nearby shops, highlighting the gravity of the situation averted by the timely intervention of the SSB personnel.
The heroic actions of the 10 Bn SSB personnel in saving lives and property, and their proactive stance in preventing the fire’s further escalation, drew praise from locals, police, and fire service authorities alike.
