Srinagar, July 23: District Srinagar was crowned the champion of the Inter-District Provincial Level U19 Girls Baseball Championship after a thrilling final held at GCOPE Gadoora, Ganderbal on Wednesday. The three-day tournament, brimming with competitive spirit and sportsmanship, concluded on a high note today.As per a statement, organised under the aegis of the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), J&K, and coordinated by DYSSO Ganderbal, the championship featured enthusiastic participation from various districts across Kashmir division. The final day brought intense action on the field. In the third-place playoff, District Bandipora edged past District Budgam in a nail-biting contest, clinching the bronze medal spot with a spirited performance.The grand finale witnessed a highly anticipated showdown between District Srinagar and District Pulwama. Winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Srinagar team delivered a commanding performance, hitting six home runs and setting a formidable target of seven runs. Despite a valiant effort, Pulwama managed only two home runs in reply, handing Srinagar a convincing and well-deserved victory. The prize distribution ceremony was held in the presence of District Youth Services and Sports Officer Ganderbal, Sheikh Shafqat Iqbal, along with Activity In-charge Sheikh Manzoor Ahmad and other dignitaries. The top three teams — Srinagar (1st), Pulwama (2nd), and Bandipora (3rd) — were felicitated with trophies and accolades, applauding their stellar performances throughout the tournament. “This event not only showcased the sporting talent of our young girls but also reinforced the importance of teamwork, discipline, and competitive spirit,” said Sheikh Shafqat Iqbal.
