Special Lok Adalat for consumer cases held at Sgr, B’gam & Gbl

Srinagar, Feb 23: In accordance with the J&K Legal Service Authority calendar for the year 2024, the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) of Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal districts of Kashmir on Friday organized Lok Adalats for the amicable settlement of Consumer cases.
The Lok Adalats were held under the direction of Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh (Patron in Chief), J&K Legal Services Authority and Justice Tashi Rabstan, Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority.
These Lok Adalats were a success in providing a quick and cost-effective forum for the resolution of consumer disputes. They provided a platform for the parties to resolve their disputes without having to go through the lengthy and expensive process of litigation and thus proved as a valuable tool for the resolution of consumer disputes.
In Srinagar, the Lok Adalat was held under the direction and supervision of Jawad Ahmed, Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Srinagar at the District Court Complex Mominabad, here.
On the occasion, one bench was constituted for the amicable settlement of Consumer cases.
The said bench took up 21 for settlement, out of which 08 cases were amicably settled and Rs. 2,54,669  was awarded as settlement amount.
In Budgam, under the insightful directions of Chairman, DLSA Budgam, Khalil Ahmad Chowdhary, a Special Lok Adalat Bench was constituted at the office of District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Budgam.
The said bench took up 05 matters for their amicable settlement, out of which 01 matter was settled. Besides, an amount of Rs 2000/- was realized in total in the settlement.  
In Ganderbal, the Lok-Adalat for Consumer Cases was held under the chairmanship of Ritesh Kumar Dubey, Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Ganderbal, and under the guidance of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Ganderbal.
The Lok-Adalat was constituted of a single bench for the amicable settlement of cases.
Overall, 10 cases were taken up for settlement, out of which 09 cases were disposed-off.
