Srinagar, Apr 23: The Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), in collaboration with the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad, organized two programs under a 15-day Certificate Course on Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) for input dealers and prospective fertilizer dealers.
As part of the university’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable agriculture, these training programs aim to build the capacity of agri-input stakeholders by equipping them with scientific knowledge and practical skills related to the judicious use of plant nutrients. The sessions were conducted at the Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-K, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from input dealers, aspiring agri-entrepreneurs, and stakeholders from various parts of the Kashmir Valley.
Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Director Extension, SKUAST-K, inaugurated the programs and emphasized the crucial role of such capacity-building initiatives in advancing sustainable farming practices and enhancing crop productivity. She urged participants to become “knowledge ambassadors” and play a proactive role in guiding farmers toward scientifically sound nutrient management.
Subject-matter experts from the Faculty of Agriculture, Division of Soil Science, and allied departments delivered comprehensive lectures on key topics including soil fertility management, balanced fertilizer application, bio-fertilizers, identification of nutrient deficiency symptoms, and the environmental impact of nutrient misuse.
The training included focused sessions on Integrated Nutrient Management, soil testing, fertilizer grading, vermicomposting, and pest and disease management.
