Srinagar, April 27: A mega awareness cum seed distribution programme for tribal farmers of district Srinagar, was organised by KVK Srinagar at Panchayat Ghar Faqir Gojri block Srinagar.
The event was chaired by Salman Sagar, MLA Hazratbal and presided by Prof. Raihana H Kanth, Director Extension SKUAST-K and Shaista Aslam (Member DDC Srinagar) and graced amongst others by officers faculty from SKUAST-K including Dr. Mugloo (PI of TSP project) and galaxy of dignitaries from development departments, village heads Sarpanchs and public representatives of the area and also the UG RHWE students undergoing internship at KVK Srinagar. The programme witnessed the participation of more than 300 farming families of the area. The mega event held to conduct seed distribution of Potato tuber and Fodder Maize for the tribal farmers of the District under the ICAR sponsored Tribal sub-lan (TSP) Project titled “Outreach of Technology and Distribution of Farming Tools for Economic upliftment of ST and Low-Income Group.”
The mass gathering of tribal beneficiaries on the occasion aimed to strengthen and ensure livelihood economic security of the tribal farming community by enhancing their farm production and farm income In his address on the occasion, Sagar underscored the need further boost the economy viz a viz welfare of the tribal area and unfolded his vision to make Faqir Gojri and its adjoining areas of Astan Marg, Nagbal Dara etc a tourist destination and carve a post of CEO for timely planning and execution of the proposed project. Dr. Aasima Rafiq moderated the event and Dr.Ishtiyak A.Mir conducted Scientist Farmer Interaction. In her opening remarks Prof. Raihana recalled the journey of outreach technological interventions made by the Kendra over the past decade with respect to economic upliftment of farmers.
Prof. Simnani, in his welcome address flagged off few holistic initiatives under taken during the year 2024-25 to connect with Higher Education Institutes, ICAR-institutes and in particular Defence Forces HQs stationed in Srinagar besides conduct of ESD Training Programs in Mission Mode to impart entrepreneurial skills to unemployed youth to ensure their livelihood- employment, economic security with ultimate aim to make our youth self-reliant -self empowered and job providers rather than job seekers. PI of the TSP project Dr.Javaid Mugloo outlined the mandates and progress made under the project. Participating farming families of the area expressed gratitude to the Kendra for their continued outreach programmes, technological support and input distribution at their door steps to enhance farm production, productivity and subsequently farm income to ensure the livelihood and economic security of the tribal farmers of the area.
