Srinagar, Nov 03: A Day-long industrial exposure visit for the BVSc students of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir was conducted to acquaint them with wool and pashmina processing operations.
The exposure visit was organised by SKUAST-K’s Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry for BVSc third-year students with an aim to take students beyond the boundaries of theory-based teaching to the on-site industry-based practical demonstration of different operations viz: carding, combing, gilling, spinning, weaving, carbonisation, embroidery and more.
Students visited Royal Kashmir at Baghi Ali Mardan Khan Industrial Estates and Maqbool Woolen Mills at Zakura Industrial Estates in Srinagar. Dr Asif Hassan Sofi, Associate Professor, Division of Livestock Products Technology, Dr Tahir Nazir and Dr Mir Rovida accompanied the students during the visit and demonstrated various processing techniques. They thanked Managing Director Royal Kashmir, Latief Ahmad Bhat, and Shabir Ahmad and Zaffar Hussain from Maqbool Woolen Mills for the cooperation extended at the processing units. Speaking about the importance of the visit, Dr Sofi said that exposing the students to the industry operations of agriculture and allied sciences shall go a long way in inculcating the entrepreneurial mindset in the budding professionals and SKUAST-Kashmir is committed to the same.
