Srinagar, Nov 9: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir organised five entrepreneurship awareness programs on high-value exotic vegetable cultivation in the Ganderbal and Pulwama districts.
The training was organised by SKUAST-K’s Division of Vegetable Science, Faculty of Horticulture under the sponsorship of the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
The programs included various aspects of high-value vegetable crop production under different titles ‘Scientific cultivation of high-value low volume vegetable crops’ at Khandaypora Pulwama and Khranihama Lar Ganderbal; Importance and production technology of high-value vegetable crops at Naderbagh Wayil Ganderbal and Repora-A Lar Ganderbal and popularization of exotic vegetables to increase farm income at Nowdal Tral Pulwama. These Programs aimed to disseminate knowledge and promote best practices in high-value vegetable production, focusing on advanced techniques, modern technologies, and sustainable methodologies. The programs encompassed various interactive sessions and informative lectures, all designed to equip the participants with a comprehensive understanding of the latest developments in high-value vegetable production. About 50 participants were registered for each program at each location. Experts from the division of vegetable science SKUAST-K delivered lectures during different sessions of the program at each location on critical aspects of high-value vegetable crop production like scope, opportunities, marketing, needs, challenges, and entrepreneurship development. Training coordinator, Dr Syed Berjes Zehra emphasised the role of these programs in promoting sustainable agricultural practices and empowering farmers with the requisite skills and knowledge to enhance crop productivity and quality, thereby improving their livelihood. SKUAST-K remains dedicated to driving the growth and development of the agricultural sector in the region and beyond. She thanked the Union Ministry of MSME for the financial support and the Directorate of Planning and Monitoring of SKUAST-K for all the help and support.
