Srinagar, Feb 02: Seven days awareness programme on, “Skill Development of Women Silkworm rearers for Income & Employment Generation” organized by the Division of Basic Science and Humanities College of Temperate Sericulture, Mirgund (SKUAST-K) w.e.f 2nd to 8th February 2024, was inaugurated on Friday.
25 women rearers from Pattan Zone of District Baramulla are taking part. Dr. I. L. Khan, Associate Professor welcomed the participants and the Officials from Sericulture, Development Department (J&K).
Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, Sericulture Assistant Pattan Zone, shared the problems being faced by the silkworm rearers and requested the Associate Dean of the College to constitute monitoring teams of Scientists for on spot redressal of the technical issues faced in field. Professor K.A.Sahaf, Head Silk Product Science highlighted the importance of Sericulture in women empowerment. Professor, Mushtaq Rasool Mir, Head Basic Science and Humanities, CTS, Mirgund stressed upon the trainees to take full benefit of this programme by way of sharpening their skills.
Professor M.F.Baqual, Associate Dean of the College, highlighted the importance of such programmes for the benefit of silkworm rearers. He also informed the gathering that a Whatsapp group is already in place for the benefit of the rearers and requested them to be part of the group enabling exchange of issue and their remedial measures.
At the end of the Programme, Dr.R.K.Sharma, Programme Coordinator, thanked the participants for registering in the programme and participating in the programme.
