SKUAST hosts students of St Joseph School Baramulla

Srinagar, Sept 14: An educational cum exposure visit of students of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Baramulla to SKUAST Kashmir, Shalimar, Srinagar was organized by Directorate of Extension.
More than 200 students along with their teachers were welcomed by Director Extension, Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi. Vice Chancellor Prof. N.A. Ganai was also present during the exposure visit. At the outset, he informed the students that the university is ranked 5th among State Agriculture universities in the country.
He informed the visiting students that university has successfully created an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship so that the students graduating from the university turn out to be job providers rather than job seekers.
Students were informed that University has secured 37 patents and equal number of faculty and student led start-ups. Visiting students were also informed about new courses started by the university in the emerging areas of artificial intelligence, data sciences and biotechnology in collaboration with institutions of national repute like IITs.
Vice Chancellor also advised the students that they should acquire human values for being a successful in their lives. A film regarding the technology innovation and entrepreneurship development produced by directorate of extension was also showcased to the students.
Director Extension highlighted the role of university in technology transfer and empowerment of farmers. He emphasized on the need to raise awareness about environmental conservation and fostering collective action towards a greener, more sustainable future and bio-economy by using less chemical pesticides.
He also highlighted the critical role played by the University and KVKs in safeguarding the livelihood of people especially farmers by developing, validating and disseminating climate resilient practices and technologies. Director Extension appreciated the efforts put in by teachers for coordinating and facilitating the visit of students from far-flung areas to the University.
Ghulam Mujtaba Tagoo Sr. Teacher from the school thanked Vice Chancellor, Director Extension and other staff of university for making their visit successful. He sought the cooperation of the university in getting the students exposed to the university in future also. The other speakers on the occasion were Prof. Poonam Sharma, Prof. Farahnaaz Rasool, Professor Irfan Bisati and Professor S.K. Raina.
Later the students visited different research units of the University where various technologies were showcased to them and they got an oppurtunity to interact with scientists and research scholars. Use of drone technology in agriculture was also demonstrated to them.
