Srinagar, Nov 07: The Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Srinagar (Soura), has implemented a mandatory dress code for its staff.
This decision follows verbal instructions from the Director of SKIMS Soura, Dr. Ashraf Ganaie and the move is aimed to ensure discipline within the administration.
According to these directions, faculty members, senior and junior residents, postgraduate students, senior and junior research officers, drivers, technical staff, nursing staff, and other employees are required to wear designated uniforms as specified by the institute.
The Director said that the move is aimed to ensure discipline within the administration and thwart any unnecessary roaming of individuals inside the institute premises.
Particularly instructions have been passed to the doctors posted in the emergency ward so that doctors and other staff are identified and it will also ease patients
“Dress code gives a positive confidence to patients that he is treated by responsible and accountable people,” Dr Ganaie said.
The director said by this move the institute can manage crowds well so that they don’t get a lot of dirt and infection in the hospital. “Infection rates will go down and there are other benefits as well,” he said.
Officials said that SKIMS has also made it mandatory for treating doctors to use their official stamps on all patient prescriptions.
“This measure aims to ensure clarity, accountability, and authenticity in medical documentation, helping patients easily identify their treating physicians and facilitating smoother record-keeping within the institute,” the officials said.
The dress code is in line with standards adopted by leading hospitals in the country. They said implementing such a code aims to enhance professionalism, ensure easy identification of staff roles and maintain a cohesive, patient-centered environment within the hospital.
