SKIMS organizes Advanced Laparoscopic Workshop “Lap-oncon 2024”

Srinagar, Nov 19: The Department of General and Minimal Invasive Surgery at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) successfully organized a specialized advanced laparoscopic workshop; titled “Lap Oncon 2024 – Small Incision, Big Impact,” live from operation theatre to SKIMS Auditorium.
Renowned laparoscopic Surgeon Dr. Sailesh Puntambekar was the Guest Faculty, joined by faculty of SKIMS, who regularly perform such advanced laparoscopic procedures. Renowned Laparoscopic Surgeon Dr. Sailesh Puntambekar, performed advanced Laparoscopic Surgery which was watched live by the audience in the SKIMS Auditorium.
The workshop was organized by the Department of General and Minimal Invasive surgery SKIMS under the guidance of Prof, Ajaz A. Malik, Head of the Department. Prof, Fazal Q. Parray was Organizing Chairman and Dr. Natasha Thakur was the Organizing Secretary. The workshop attracted Surgical Faculty from SKIMS and other institutions of the Valley.
Director SKIMS / EOSG Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie welcomed the expert Laparoscopic Faculty from the country and appreciated the department for organizing the advanced workshop which he said is great opportunity to exchange knowledge and skills. It is an opportunity to learn and share new techniques in surgery and SKIMS being a renowned training centre contributes to human resource in health care at the global level and these training programs / workshops give new exposure the trainees about the latest advances. The exchange of ideas from the renowned faculty of the country, greatly benefits the Surgeons and students.
Head of the Department, General & Minimal Invasive Surgery Prof. Ajaz Malik said that the workshop provided a valuable platform for the exchange of knowledge and discussion on the latest laparoscopic techniques, He informed that during the workshop, four complex surgeries were performed, including cases of carcinoma of the stomach, colon, rectum, and gallbladder. These cases are routinely managed through Laparoscopic approaches in SKIMS, he added and remarked that this highlights the Institute’s commitment in advancing minimally invasive cancer treatment. The workshop fostered a collaborative spirit, cementing SKIMS as a centre of excellence in advanced Laparoscopic and minimal invasive surgery. Prof. Fazal Q. Parray Organizing Chairman stressed the need for more frequent workshops, so that knowledge is disseminated.
The event was attended by various faculty members, delegates from various medical colleges, Health Institutions from across the valley, Postgraduates, Fellows and students from the department. Dr. Natasha Thakur, Organizing Secretary delivered the vote of thanks.
