Srinagar, Jan 24: SKIMS Medical College, Bemina on Tuesday celebrated National Girl Child Day, here. The event was organized by the Department of Community Medicine.
Speaking on the occasion Principal SKIMS Medical College, Prof Irfan Robbani recounted the role of great women from Lalla Ded and Habba Khatoon to Prof. Girja Dhar and Prof Mehmooda Khan in shaping of the society.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Medical College, Dr Shafa Deva emphasized the importance of education and health for girl child which would translate into a healthy mother and an educated family.
Er Urooj Allaqaband, Executive Engineer, emphasized the role of support from men especially the father, brothers & husband in allowing the women to achieve excellence in every field of life.
Dr Sameena, Faculty GMC spoke about social menace of child sexual abuse and its prevention, while Dr Ashiq Rashid, WHO consultant, discussed the importance of awareness generation about women’s education and empowerment.
Seher Qureshi, Counsellor from One Stop Centre for Women in distress, Srinagar, made the audience aware of the legal and other provisions of the Sakhi scheme.
Sabira Bashir, case worker from One Stop Centre for Women, Srinagar, deliberated on the issues faced by women in the contemporary society.
Later, a poster competition was also organized in which the first three positions were bagged by Mayur, Adnan, and Suha respectively.
