Kokernag, Jan 15: Sinthan Top, the renowned mountain pass linking Anantnag and Kishtwar and celebrated for its heavy snowfall, is witnessing a notable influx of tourists seeking a snowy experience, especially as many conventional locations remain snow-deprived this season. Official records reveal that a substantial 1.46 lakh tourists, including 28 foreigners, chose Sinthan Top as their destination in 2023, underscoring the increasing allure of this location due to its consistent year-round snowfall.
Tehsildar Larnoo, Syed Muiz Qadri, informed Rising Kashmir that Sinthan Top is witnessing a surge in tourist arrivals amid the absence of snowfall at conventional tourist hotspots. In December 2023 alone, 1500 domestic and 500 local tourists flocked to savor the snow-covered mountaintop.
Expressing enthusiasm over the rising figures, Qadri, representing the tehsil and sub-division administration, extends an invitation to tourists to explore Sinthan Top, Duksum, and revel in the enchanting snow-covered mountain scenery.
Sinthan Top, situated at an elevation of 12,414 feet above sea level, experiences heavy snowfall each season. The administrations of Anantnag and Kishtwar, supported by NHIDCL, ensure swift road clearance after every snowfall to maintain accessibility for travelers.
A tourist guide mentioned that visitors are relishing the snow at Sinthan Top, with numerous vehicles lining the road. Despite the limited facilities, it is the snow that takes precedence this season. The unpredictable weather has impacted the business of conventional tourist places that usually draw crowds from across the country.
However, visitors express disappointment over the lack of basic facilities at the spot. The destination lacks public conveniences, mobile connectivity, proper garbage management, and attractive vantage points or selfie spots, as reported by a group of visitors.
