Ganderbal, Aug 08: Janata Dal (United) J&K President G M Shaheen on Thursday expressed disappointment over the lack of visits from Members of Parliament and other prominent leaders to the cloudburst-affected areas of Padabal and Kaw-Cherwan.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir on the sidelines of a convention in the Cherwan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, Shaheen said the NDA-led government is making its first attempt to alleviate the suffering of the common people.
“It is very unfortunate that despite leaders being elected from here, no one has bothered to visit the affected areas. The suffering of the common people should be the government’s top priority,” he said.
Commenting on the visit of the Election Commission (EC) to Jammu & Kashmir regarding assembly elections, the JD(U) chief criticised unnamed political parties, specifically targeting the National Conference and People’s Democratic Party.
“There are some people who are not even in the papers, yet they are singing a different tune now that elections are near. These parties are now depressed because they see the change coming,” he remarked.
During his visit to the flood-affected areas of Kaw-Cherwan and Padabal, Shaheen pledged to take up the locals’ demands with the administration. He assured the residents that their voices would be heard and addressed.
Shaheen also touched upon the ongoing Zojila Tunnel project, stating that he would advocate for the employment of local labourers in the construction work. “I will talk to the government to ensure that only locals are given preference in the Zojila Tunnel project,” he added.
The JD(U) leader said that security forces are actively strengthening the borders and effectively responding to the enemies.
