Srinagar, May 08: Secretary to the Government Transport Department of Jammu and Kashmir, Neeraj Kumar on Wednesday visited the Central Workshop of JKRTC at Sempora Pampore to enhance road safety measures and explore the feasibility of establishing advanced Driving Training Centres and Automated Testing Stations in the valley.
Kumar was accompanied by Rajinder Singh Tara, Transport Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir, and Rakesh Kumar Srangal, JKAS Managing Director of JKRTC.
The Secretary was briefed on the expansive land, approximately 100 kanals, that the Central Workshop of JKRTC occupies, setting the stage for potential innovative developments. With a focus on leveraging technology to curb road accidents and enhance road safety, Secretary Kumar emphasised the importance of setting up advanced Driving Training Centres and Automated Testing Stations. “These state-of-the-art facilities wouldn’t just improve efficiency but would also significantly contribute to reducing road accidents, thereby saving lives,” he said.
During the inspection, Kumar proposed a comprehensive integrated project involving RTDC/ICC/ATS, considering the ample land available in Pampore. This proposal, aimed at providing access to Automated Driving Training & Certification Centres, similar to those in the Jammu Division, would be developed by JKRTC in collaboration with the Transport Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir, he said. The directive was clear – to expedite the process promptly, ensuring the public’s convenience at the earliest.
The visit witnessed the presence of several key dignitaries, including Ajaz Abdullah Saraf, Additional Transport Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir, Rajeshwar Singh Charak, Additional Secretary of the Transport Department, and Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari, Regional Transport Officer of Kashmir, among others.
