Srinagar, July 13: In preparation for the upcoming Muharram, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, chaired a comprehensive security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR) in Kashmir.
The meeting, which brought together senior officers from various security agencies, aimed to ensure foolproof security arrangements during the period of religious processions.
Key attendees included DIG CID Srinagar, DD IB Srinagar, DIG SSB Kashmir, DIG Armed Kashmir, and several district and sector heads from Kashmir Zone Police, CRPF, BSF, and ITBP. Senior officers from the Srinagar Police, Traffic Department, CID, and other relevant departments also participated in the discussions.
The focal point of the meeting was the extensive security measures required to manage the large number of processions expected across the valley. Topics such as crowd control, traffic regulation, and the maintenance of law and order were thoroughly deliberated.
IGP Kashmir emphasised the importance of ensuring robust security arrangements to guarantee a peaceful Muharram. He directed officers to enhance surveillance, particularly during night processions, and to closely monitor anti-national elements and mischief-makers.
Furthermore, IGP Birdi advised officers to visit Imambarahs and mosques to review security setups and to hold coordination meetings with both Sunni and Shia community members. He stressed the importance of engaging Shia community leaders to seek their cooperation in ensuring the safe conduct of all events.
District heads were instructed to develop comprehensive security strategies and detailed route plans to prevent any untoward incidents. Additionally, the officers provided updates on the ongoingShriAmarnathJiYatra (SANJY). The IGP underscored the need for strict adherence to cut-off timings to ensure the safety of pilgrims during their movements.
IGP Birdi urged all officers to remain vigilant and maintain a high level of alertness throughout the period to ensure the safe and incident-free conduct of both Muharram processions and the SANJY.
