Srinagar, Oct 29: Director, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Ganie, on Tuesday said seasonal changes in Kashmir, especially during autumn and spring, lead to a rise in viral infections and allergies.
“As the seasons change in Kashmir, particularly during autumn and spring, many people experience viral infections and allergies,” the director told reporters on the sidelines of the Paediatric Allergy Conference at SKIMS Medical College.
“In winter months there is a spike in bacterial infections, elderly people face chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and children face asthma and other allergic disorders,” he said.
The special program on allergy and pulmonology focused on respiratory and lung disorders commonly seen with seasonal changes in order to educate medical professionals on managing seasonal respiratory issues effectively.
The director said the allergy and pulmonology program provided a platform for doctors, practitioners, and medical students to engage in discussions on recent advancements and research in the field.
It included presentations of new research papers, facilitating continuous medical education that could ultimately benefit patients dealing with respiratory disorders.
Dr. Ganie praised the initiative for enhancing knowledge and promoting better patient care within the medical community. “The program was designed to equip healthcare providers with the latest tools and insights to manage respiratory illnesses more effectively, thereby supporting healthier communities across the region,” he added.
