Budgam, Nov 22: Despite the government having released money, no construction has been started for the new building of the Government High School Daramunah in this central Kashmir’s Budgam district, locals say.
As per the locals of the Daramunah village, the students face a lot of problems in the school due to the non-availability of proper space in the old school building.
“The school was upgraded to a high school in 2014 and then funds were released for construction of a ten-room building,” Irfan Ahmad Hajam, a local, told Rising Kashmir.
He alleged that funds to the tune of Rs 94.05 lakh under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) scheme were released and credited to the account of Executive Engineer R&B Division Budgam for the construction of the ten-room school building.
“Unfortunately, the land was not available at that time. However, later on, two kanals of state land was identified by the Revenue Department Budgam,” Hajam said, adding that the students enrolled in the school are suffering due to the lack of proper accommodation.
Ishtiyaq Ahmad, another resident, said the school has enrolled 130 students from KG classes to 10th standard, and functions in only four rooms.
“The school needs another building which the government has already allotted six years ago,” he said, adding that the present building is in a dilapidated condition.
Ishtiyaq said the government must construct the new school building in the village on an urgent basis.
An official of the R&B Division Budgam said that funds released for the construction of the school building were diverted to other works by the concerned official at that time. He cited the unavailability of land as the reason for it.
