Srinagar, July 16 : The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) in Jammu and Kashmir contests the news item under the heading, “MoE’s ambitious SCERT, DIET revamp begins.” which was published in Local daily on 13th July 2024. The news article published was incomplete and out of context as it didn’t covered the factual details.

Recently, the GoI, MoE reviewed the work and assignments carried out by SCERTs and DIETs across the country. The Ministry was happy to observe the significant milestone achieved by SCERT-JK with two of its District Institutes of Educational Training (DIETs) being recognized as centers of excellence.

These two DIETs showcased their hard work and infrastructure through some incredible presentations that impressed the MoE and accordingly, the DIET Budgam, and Kulgam were selected as DIETs of excellence in 2023-24.

The recognition of DIETs in Budgam and Kulgam districts as centers of excellence is part of a larger National initiative announced by the MoE on July 9, 2024. The ambitious plan aims to upgrade all 613 functional DIETs across India over the next five years, with an estimated budget of Rs 9,195 crore under the Samagra Shiksha scheme.

The MoE’s decision to develop SCERTs/DIETs as model centers of innovation and research aligns with the NEP-2020 vision. This includes enhancing infrastructure, digital technology, curriculum development, and focusing on skill education and collaborative research.

As part of the evaluation process, the MoE has initiated a Google survey to assess the current status of SCERTs across the country. As of July 9, 2024, five states completed the survey including JK UT, within the deadline of July 10, 2024, for all states/UTs.

The recognition of two DIETs in Jammu and Kashmir as centers of excellence marks a significant step forward in the region’s educational landscape and the rest of the DIETs are expected to join the club of excellence in future. It is due to the hard work and dedication of these two DIET Principals including their Academic faculty that these DIETs has been recognized as DIETs of Excellence. SCERT,J&K did the job of hand holding during this whole process.
