Srinagar, May 27: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar on Monday thanked people for voting in large numbers in the three Parliamentary seats of Baramulla, Srinagar and Anantnag-Rajouri.
Sagar in a statement issued here said the impressive turnout in the just concluded elections has again shown that the people of J&K have embraced democracy and reasserted their stake in government formation. This significant participation of people in elections is a telling testament to the robust democratic spirit and civic engagement of the people in the region, he said.
Given the impressive turnout, it is important to hold the assembly polls as soon as possible, the NC leader said, adding that this must be a priority for the next government in Delhi and could be the first step to restore statehood as well.
Sagar further said, “The people have emphatically rejected anti-Kashmir forces through their ballots. The huge turnout is a clear demonstration of the people’s rejection of the anti-J&K steps taken since August 05, 2019. The vote was against those who have taken away our rights and dignity. The vote was against tariff hike, against unemployment, against lies, against deceit, and against the politics of hate.”
