Srinagar Mar 06: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) on Wednesday announced Vice Chairman & former cabinet minister G M Saroori as the candidate for the Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary constituency in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Describing Saroori as the epitome of leadership and dedication, the party chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad hailed him as the ‘right choice’ to represent the aspirations of the people in the Udhampur-Doda region.
Addressing a public gathering in the Charar-i-Sharif area of Budgam, Azad said, “I am confident that under the dynamic leadership of G M Saroori, the Udhampur-Doda constituency will witness unparalleled progress and development. His unwavering commitment to public service makes him the ideal candidate to champion the cause of the people.”
Azad also paid obeisance at the revered shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Noor ud din Wali, where he prayed for peace and prosperity in the region.
Reflecting on the significance of unity, the former chief minister underscored the importance of solidarity among all communities for a thriving and harmonious Jammu & Kashmir. He pledged to transform the shrine into a premier pilgrim tourist destination, aimed at bolstering the local economy. He outlined ambitious plans to enhance the infrastructure of Yusmarg, envisaging a surge in job opportunities for the educated unemployed youth.
The DPAP chief also expressed grave concern over “arbitrary” detentions. “If there are no serious charges against these youth, the government should expedite their release and allow them to reintegrate into society and contribute meaningfully to the mainstream,” he said.
Azad lamented the “historical exploitation” of Kashmiris by other political parties, emphasizing the urgent need for a paradigm shift towards a future anchored in prosperity and harmony. He cautioned against placing blind faith in empty slogans, urging voters to instead focus on tangible outcomes that directly impact their lives.
“I have always been steadfast in my dedication to the development of Kashmir,” Azad said, as he reflected on his track record of delivering “tangible benefits” to the people.
Azad declared, “If you choose to entrust my party with your vote, we will continue our relentless pursuit of progress and prosperity for Kashmir. We will build upon our past achievements and embark on new endeavours to uplift every corner of this beautiful land.”
