Srinagar, July 17: In a major crackdown on traffic violators across Kashmir, authorities have collected around ₹7 lakh in fine and seized 42 vehicles as part of a special enforcement drive. The operation began after the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety took serious note of the increasing number of road accidents across the country.A high-level meeting was held earlier this month chaired Chief Secretary to review the situation. Following this, a UT-wide drive was launched on, July 5.Speaking to Rising Kashmir, RTO Kashmir Qazi Irfan Rasool said, “Since the drive began, 22 driving licences have also been suspended. The campaign is ongoing and will intensify further on Saturday, July 19, as part of a Pan-India push to curb traffic violations.”He added that special attention is being given to habitual offenders. “Some individuals have over 70 pending challans. Investigations have been launched against them, and we have already suspended several driving licences, permits, and registration certificates,” Rasool said.He said they have also taken action against vehicles operating under all-India permits without proper permissions. “We have seized such vehicles and further investigation is underway,” he added. The drive aims to reduce the number of road accidents in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions through strict enforcement of traffic laws.
