Srinagar, Nov 28: 23, 497 houses have been constructed and handed over to beneficiaries in Jammu and Kashmir under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U), with Rs 401.79 crore spent on the project.
This was stated by Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, while presenting the scheme’s progress across various states in the Parliamenton Thursday.
The Minister said that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U), 26,748 houses have been approved for construction in Jammu and Kashmir over the last five years, with 27,627 houses already grounded. Of these, 23,497 houses have been completed and handed over to beneficiaries.
He said that in terms of funding, Rs 394.97 crore has been released for the scheme in J&K, with Rs 401.79 crore utilized so far for the construction and delivery of houses under the PMAY-U program.
The minister also mentioned the launch of PMAY-U 2.0, effective from September 1, 2024, as part of the government’s ‘Housing for All’ initiative which he said is to provide central assistance for building, buying, or renting houses in urban areas, with a target of supporting one crore more households across the country.
The Minister said that the updated version of the scheme will be implemented through four main components: Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), Affordable Rental Housing (ARH), and an Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS).
29 states and Union Territories, including Jammu and Kashmir, have already signed agreements to implement PMAY-U 2.0, he added.
