The Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission, known as UMEED JK, is spearheading a transformative change in the lives of rural women across the region. Through various initiatives and programs, UMEED is empowering women, honing their skills, and creating brighter opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.
Empowering Self-Help Groups:
The journey of self-help groups (SHGs) associated with UMEED has witnessed a remarkable transformation. With over 7.4 lakh rural women federated into more than 89,000 SHGs across all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir, the mission has emerged as a beacon of women empowerment.
Financial Support and Training:
Rural women associated with UMEED JKRLM have been disbursed Rs. 421 crores in terms of Revolving Fund and Community Investment Fund. Moreover, over 5,000 rural SHG women have been provided training in various skill courses to enhance their capabilities and broaden their livelihood opportunities.
Global Recognition:
UMEED initiatives gained international attention during the G20 Tourism group meet in Kashmir. The UMEED Market Place and Millet Cafe showcased nutritious millet-based delicacies prepared by women SHGs, captivating delegates worldwide.
SARAS AAJEEVIKA:
UMEED JKRLM hosted the first-ever women-led food and cultural fair called “SARAS AAJEEVIKA,” providing a platform for SHGs from across the country to showcase their talents and skills, celebrating rural women’s achievements.
Innovative Ventures:
Initiatives like DograHaats, Millet Canteen, Umeed Women’s Haat, and District Rural Haat have become successful ventures, fostering women entrepreneurship, promoting nutritious eating choices, and fostering economic growth.
Airport Sales Outlets and SKOCH Award:
Sales outlets at airports, recognition with the prestigious SKOCH Award, and presence on e-commerce platforms like Meesho, Flipkart, and Amazon further highlight UMEED’s commitment to empowering women and expanding market reach.
LakhpatiDidi:
With 46,887 Lakhpatididis in Jammu and Kashmir, UMEED JKRLM continues to elevate rural women’s economic status, paving the way for a brighter and more prosperous future.
