Ganderbal, Mar 12: A residential house bore the brunt of damage when a stone fell from the road constructed by APCO Company for the Z Morh Tunnel Project here in Pathribal Gagangeer area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. The incident, occurred on Monday night around 10 o’clock, instilled fear among locals as the heavy brick stone crashed into the wall of the house, causing severe damage. Fortunately, the family members managed to escape unscathed.
Gulab Thekrey, the owner of the house, described the harrowing experience when the stone struck the wall, shaking the entire structure. Following the incident, he promptly informed the Gund police and cooperated with authorities in assessing the situation. Parvaiz Ahmad, a family member, attributed the mishap to ongoing construction activities in the area, highlighting the dangers posed by such endeavors.
In response to the incident, Tehsildar Gund, accompanied by police and other officials, visited the site on Tuesday to inspect the damage. Assuring swift action, the Tehsildar vowed to address the matter with higher authorities and ensure compensation for the affected family. Additionally, the Tehsildar directed the Project Manager of APCO Company to promptly compensate the family and facilitate their rehabilitation to a safer location.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with large-scale construction projects, particularly in residential areas. It also underscores the importance of implementing stringent safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Last year’s incident near Rezan, where part of the road under the Z Morh tunnel collapsed, resulting in damage to several residential houses and shops.
