Kulgam, Nov 25: Rasikh Salam, a 24-year-old cricketer from Ashmuji, Kulgam, has secured a bid after being picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2025 auction for an impressive ₹6 crore. This is the highest bid ever for a player from Jammu and Kashmir.
At home, Rasikh’s family is overjoyed with the news, believing this success is a significant step forward and expecting the best in the upcoming IPL season. They remain hopeful that this achievement will pave the way for his selection in the Indian cricket team.
Rasikh, a bowling all-rounder, has previously played for Mumbai Indians (2019), Kolkata Knight Riders (2022), and Delhi Capitals (2024). His exceptional performance in the Emerging Asia Cup, where he emerged as one of the most successful bowlers, significantly boosted his reputation and likely influenced the high bid.
Irfan Salam, Rasikh’s elder brother, told Rising Kashmir that the family is thankful to Allah for this incredible blessing. “The entire family is overwhelmed with happiness. Neighbors and well-wishers have been visiting us to congratulate us on Rasikh’s success. We are all immensely proud of him,” he said.
He added, “We are confident that he will continue to perform exceptionally well for his franchise. If given the opportunity to represent India, I believe he will give his best effort.”
Raja Waseem, a local cricket commentator who has followed Rasikh’s career closely, described the moment as a significant milestone not just for Rasikh but for the entire valley.
He said that when he last spoke to Rasikh before the auction, Rasikh told him, “I have nothing in my hands. I gave my best performance, and now everything is in the hands of Allah. Whatever is written in my destiny, I will surely receive.” He added that Rasikh’s faith and hard work have been rewarded exceptionally well.
“Rasikh’s consistent performances, including his selection for the Emerging Asia Cup and his role in India A, have showcased his immense talent. IPL scouts from various franchises have been impressed by his skills and abilities,” he said.

Raja said that people have been gathering at his home since the announcement, celebrating his success. This achievement is not just about the financial aspect but also about the honor and recognition it brings to the area.
“Rasikh’s journey serves as an inspiration for aspiring cricketers. It shows that with hard work and determination, talent can shine through even in challenging circumstances. We pray for his continued success and hope to see him representing India on the global stage soon,” he added.
