Srinagar, Jan 19: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Sunday expressed anguish over the mysterious illness that has claimed the lives of many in Budhal village of Rajouri.
In a statement issued here, Dr Farooq expressed concern about the situation in Budhal village. However, he commended the timely action of the government, particularly the Chief Minister for reassuring the public that the reasons behind the deaths will be determined.
Dr Abdullah praised the health ministry for conducting extensive tests on the ground to uncover the causes of the deaths. He emphasised the importance of all branches of the administration, both civil and police, working together as directed by the Chief Minister to determine the cause of the deaths.
The NC chief acknowledged the efforts of the Central government in assisting the local administration in identifying the root cause of the deaths. He urged the government to provide additional support to the affected households.
Dr Farooq also extended condolences to the bereaved households during this challenging time, expressing that the party’s rank and file stand in solidarity with them in their time of utmost grief.
Meanwhile, the NC president met with representatives of Traders and Students Union of the Kashmir Valley at Ajmer Sharif on Sunday. The delegation presented their grievances, which Dr Abdullah attentively listened to and assured them of his full support. He emphasised that all concerns would be addressed and mentioned ongoing communications with relevant administrative authorities across India.
The former chief minister highlighted the strong mandate that led to the formation of the Omar Abdullah-led government, reaffirming the party’s commitment to fulfilling all promises outlined in their manifesto. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the current administration and expressed optimism that, upon the restoration of statehood, all issues would be resolved.
Dr Abdullah offered prayers at the Dargah, including Namaz e Maghrib and Isha yesterday and Namaz Fajr. He was accompanied by Additional General Secretary Dr Mustafa Kamal and MLA Poonch, Ajaz Jan during his visit. Following his time in Ajmer, he travelled to Jaipur, where he met with several notable personalities.
