Srinagar, July 05. “The prolonged delay in restoring the democratic setup is the BJP’s planned assault on the people of J&K exhibiting ill intentions and a deliberate move to demean and disempower people besides making them unheard and unpresented at every appropriate forum aiming to rule J&K directly from the Centre,” said senior Congress leader Tariq Hameed Karra on Wednesday.
He said Congress feels highly concerned about the absence of a democratic setup in J&K and urges the Central government to “stop creating more uncertainty” in J&K and pave the way for holding elections in J&K to ensure that people live with honour and dignity.
Addressing a party workers’ meeting at Gund Hassi Bhat area of Shalteng Srinagar, Karra criticised the Centre for “espousing negative and anti-people measures in J&K and deliberately demeaning and disempowering people on every count”.
“The prolonged delay in holding elections is a deliberate move to keep people away from the democratic setup aiming to make them unpresented and rule J&K directly from the Centre. J&K is the victim of BJP’s vindictive policies leading to disappointment among the people. BJP is shying away from elections as they are set to face a humiliating defeat given its anti-people measures and vindictive policies towards J&K,” he said.
“J&K is a breeding ground for uncertainty, deprivation and hopelessness all thanks to BJP and its arbitrarily imposed agents over the people. The local aspirations have been killed as the State which now operates as a UT is without an elected Government for the past five years,” he said.
Commenting on the BJP’s new UCC (Uniform Civil Code) “drama being thrust” in the country, the senior Congress leader said, “The desperation and haphazard behaviour of BJP indicates the frustration that this party collectively carries with itself. In a blatant attempt to polarise the electorate, the UCC type tantrums are being pulled to divert the attention of people from real issues which are of significance to the common man of India”.
“The rising fuel prices, unemployment, the distressed situation of farmers, inflation and the burden of infinite taxes are breaking the backbone of every Indian across the classes, and the BJP failed in controlling these matters and is now trying hard to polarise the voters and win another term in office so that it may destroy whatever is left in this Republic,” he added. Karra appealed to the people to “remain vigilant and defeat the divisive designs of BJP”.
