Srinagar, Aug 12: The Prisons Department, Jammu and Kashmir, has issued a clarification regarding a news report titled “Jammu Kashmir ke jailon mein amle ki qilat; Central Jail Srinagar mein 129 asamiyan khaali,” published in the local daily on August 1, 2025.The department, in a statement issued here, said the figures and claims presented in the report are not factually accurate and may lead to misinformation among readers. While there is a slight staff shortage in some jails, the exaggerated figures cited in the news article are misleading and do not accurately reflect the current situation, it added.The department said that all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure the smooth functioning and security of all jails within the Union Territory. In addition to the regular prison staff, the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) has also been deployed to maintain order and security, it added.
