Srinagar, Jan 6: The Sikh community in Kashmir Valley celebrated Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s birth anniversary, also known as Prakash Parv, with great religious fervor and devotion on Wednesday. Devotees thronged Gurudwaras across the region despite the cold weather to pay obeisance and attend special prayers and sermons.
The main function in Kashmir was observed at Shaheed Bunga Gurudwara Barzulla instead of Gurudwara Chatti Patshahi Rainawari, which is undergoing renovation. A large gathering of Sikh men, women, and children from across the Valley participated in the prayers at Barzulla.
The Sikh community expressed gratitude for the arrangements made by the authorities. A representative from the Sikh Committee at Chatti Patshahi, Srinagar, said, “The administration ensured all necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of celebrations, and we appreciate their efforts.”
Devotional gatherings were also held at Amira Kadal, Jawahar Nagar, Allochibagh, Tral, Rangreth, Pattan, Baramulla, Jammu, and Ladakh.
On this auspicious occasion, Sikh devotees reflected on Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s teachings. One devotee at Barzulla stated, “Guru Gobind Singh Ji taught us to stand for truth and righteousness. His message of selfless service and unity continues to inspire us.”
Another devotee Sukpreet Kour said, “Recognise all of mankind as a single caste of humanity.’ We must live by this principle and spread love and harmony.”
The celebrations concluded with ‘langar’ (community kitchen), where people from all backgrounds were served free meals, emphasizing Guru Ji’s teachings of equality and selfless service.
