Sopore, Oct 18: Senior Vice President of J&K Peoples Conference and former minister, Abdul Gani Vakil, voiced deep concern over the escalating power crisis in the valley.
Expressing his dismay, Vakil said it is alarming to witness such a severe power shortage at the beginning of the winter season.
During his visit to various villages in Rafiabad and Sopore areas of north Kashmir, Vakil addressed workers’ meetings at Warpora, Mograypora, Gonipora, Marazigund, and Doabgah. In his address, he criticized the UT administration for its “lacklustre response” to the crisis.
The ongoing power crisis has left people, both in metered and unmetered areas, without electricity for days, leaving them vulnerable and helpless, he said.
The PC leader criticized the present government, accusing it of mere rhetoric and ineffective measures. He said the government’s failure to adhere to its own load-shedding schedule has intensified the plight of the valley’s residents.
Despite the announced schedule, unscheduled and frequent power cuts persist, causing significant inconveniences, especially for the elderly, the sick, and students preparing for examinations, he said.
“There is no defined power schedule, causing immense inconvenience, particularly to the elderly and ailing individuals, as well as students facing examinations,” Vakil added.
The former minister urged the UT government to take immediate and decisive action and implement its power distribution schedule rigorously.
The government should make all preparations and arrangements for supplying power to the people of the valley in the coming full winter season and to make all efforts to provide sufficient electricity to the people of the valley, he said.
