Porn in the Name of Comedy

In the last few days something shameful has made headlines in the print and electronic media. It has become a norm these days that anyone can take to social media and initiate a channel and indulge in promoting himself or herself. These promotions are for different reasons. The people with exceptional skills have been able to use social media or alternate media and crave a niche for themselves. But it would have been a satisfaction if the social media platforms like YouTube, X , Facebook, Instagram and many more would have been used for making society better and wiser. It is not. The use of filthy language that is tantamount to verbal porn by the so called stand up comedians Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia in the India’s Got Latent YouTube Show has exposed the degradation of moral values among the present generation. The moment the remarks made by these social media influencers got viral it gained the attention of the people worldwide. Most people were unaware about the contents of this show. But after these unacceptable remarks went viral it led the people to ascertain about the show and to their dismay they discovered that the language used by the hosts and guests is laced with lecherous comments and conversation is nothing but verbal porn. What is surprising is that there has emerged a sizable chunk of people from various age groups, leave aside the youngsters who are defending the indefensible by praising these influencers who have gained followers for serving filthy language. This is a sad story about the present social order that is endorsing verbal porn in the name of comedy and entertainment. After this episode these influencers have ended in a legal tangle. But instead of being remorseful they are defending their immoral act of using the filthy language where they have crossed the levels of decency. Multiple posts are available in the social media and in some of them Samay Raina has apparently replied as well. Various news portals have claimed the reply of this influencer in terms of voice notes. Where he has no qualms even if someone wants to shoot porn ,they have no objection to it. This is absurd and totally sick. Not only that he has indulged in giving lectures to justify their obscenity by saying that comedy is not to give a moral science lecture and the worst of it is that he says that comedy has no responsibility and is meant to take you away from reality and make you have fun. For them porn is comedy and entertainment. This explains it all. They have assumed that in the name of entertainment they can serve verbal porn and keep calling it entertainment. Worst of all, there has emerged a market that accepts them as normal. This normalisation of verbal porn must concern us all as a society and the nation at all levels of human behaviour.One thing is clear that there is a need to enforce strict censorship on the content that is being sold in the name of social media. Responsibility has to be fixed and lines drawn. Social media and so called stand up comedians who claim to be entertainers must be reined in. There is a need for social media discipline and we cannot afford to allow our young generation to go unbridled and end as morons. Samay Raina belongs to Kashmir, it really hurts when he says that comedy is fun and comedians have no responsibility. He must be remembered that he belongs to the land where Kshmendra, the polyglot was born who used high class dry humour and satire to bring to the fore the moral degradation. So that the society is shown the mirror and degeneration is nipped in the bud. He must read his works like the Samya Matrika and judge for himself as to what the satire and humour means .What he is serving is filth and trash that can have takers for some days but these acts end within no time. We remember Kshmendra even today after centuries because he was ahead of his times.
