Srinagar, Mar 27: Multiple raids were conducted across the Kashmir valley on Thursday as part of ongoing police investigations into the activities of several proscribed organisations, officials said.
The raids took place in Ganderbal, Shopian, and Baramulla districts. Authorities confirmed that multiple locations were targeted, with searches conducted at the residences of persons associated with banned organisations, including Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP), and J-K Muslim League (Masrat Alam Faction).
In Baramulla, a significant operation was carried out in Kanispora in connection with a case registered under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
A police team led by DySP DAR Ajay Kumar (JKPS), along with SHO Baramulla Risabh Shukla (IPS) and DO Delina, searched the residence of Ab Rashid Gilkar, son of Ghulam Rasool, a resident of Tawheed Colony, Kanispora. Gilkar, the District President of the banned JKDFP, was linked to case FIR No. 13/2024 U/S 10, 13 UAPA at Police Station Baramulla.
In another operation, raids were conducted in the Jalal Sahib area of Old Town Baramulla, leading to the recovery of incriminating materials. A police team led by DySP HQ Baramulla Altaf Ahmed (JKPS), along with SHO Baramulla Risabh Shukla (IPS) and DO Old Town, carried out a search at the residence of Irfan Ahmed Kababi, a member of the banned Muslim League, in connection with case FIR No. 12/2024 U/S 10, 13 UAPA.
“During the search, incriminating materials, including posters and an identity card of the Muslim League, were seized. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and purpose of these materials,” a police spokesman said.
Officials stated that searches were conducted at the residential premises of separatist elements suspected of involvement in unlawful activities that pose a threat to public order and national security. The seized items are now under investigation, forming a crucial part of multiple FIRs registered under the UAPA.
Meanwhile, Baramulla Police has registered an FIR against individuals found involved in unlawful activities despite a government-imposed ban on their organization.
A police spokesman reported that Jammu and Kashmir Itihad-ul-Muslimeen (JKIM), affiliated with Masroor Abbas Ansari, has been implicated in activities threatening national integrity and sovereignty.
“The organization’s members have been linked to terror-related incidents, stone-pelting on security forces, and inciting public unrest against the Union of India.
Considering these subversive activities, the Government of India, through MHA Notification No. 14017/1/2025/NI-MFO dated 11.03.2025, has declared the organization unlawful,” the spokesman said.
Despite the ban, credible intelligence indicates that certain leaders and members of JKIM continue to engage in anti-national activities, actively instigating the public, spreading misinformation, and promoting hatred.
“Taking due cognizance of these violations, Police Station Pattan has registered Case FIR No. 45/2025 under Sections 10 & 13 of UAPA and Sections 147 & 148 of BNS. Further investigation has been set into motion,” he added.
