PGI, Chandigarh & Fortis organizes blood donation, health check-up camp at Aryans

Srinagar, Jan 28: Aryans Institute of Nursing and Aryans College of Pharmacy with the support of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh & Fortis Hospital, Mohali on Saturday organized a blood donation and free health check up camp at Aryans Campus, Rajpura, Near Chandigarh. 
The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Deepika, Senior Resident, Department of Blood Transfusion, PGI; Dr. Manjeet Singh Trehan, MBBS, MD, Additional Director- Internal Medicine, Fortis Hospital and Dr. Tanya Sharma, Medical Officer, Aryans Group. Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group presided over the event. 
A 7-member team of blood transfusion from PGI, Chandigarh under the leadership of Dr. Deepika conducted a thorough medical checkup of voluntary donors and selected the eligible donors to donate blood. A three-member team from Fortis Hospital conducted a free health check-up camp. 
Dr. Deepika and Dr. Trehan appreciated the special initiative taken by Aryans to provide health care services to meet the needs of the Indian population & also to meet the immediate health care needs of the marginalized community through this health camp. They also applauded Aryans for reaching out to the needy people with health solutions. 
Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group while motivating the students said that a person can save three lives from one unit of blood. “These camps are a great boon to the patients in emergency need. The objective of the camp was to encourage more people to come forward. Frequent blood donation will help in reducing the risk of cancers and preserve cardiovascular health. Donors also have a much lower risk of falling prey to life-threatening diseases,” he said.
Nidhi Chopra, Principal, Aryans Institute of Nursing further informed that over hundreds of people along with their children from nearby villages visited the camp and underwent health checkups by the team of specialist doctors and were given consultations and medicine free of cost. A total of 30 units of blood were collected and health check-up of around 110 people, students and staff was done.
Dr. Krishan Singla, Principal, Aryans College of Pharmacy said, “None of us can survive without blood in our body and blood donation is a service to society,” He appreciated the students who donated their blood. “It feels good when people come forward for a noble cause, especially when we see enthusiastic feeling of youngsters for mankind,”Dr. Singla said.
