Srinagar, Jan. 21: The people in Srinagar on Sunday expressed their concern over the tendering for the repair of food courts and jetties at Brarinambal, saying these structures were completed a few years ago, the department failed to hand over these food courts to anyone.
A group of locals told Rising Kashmir that few years ago a large sum of money was spent on the construction of the food court and jetties. They said, “the department didn’t hand over the same to anyone, resulting in these jetties getting damaged, and now the department is again processing the tender for repair is nothing but wastage of tax payers money.”
A local resident, Yamer Mohammad, believes the department instead of wasting money on renovations should spend the same amount on cleaning the lake to make it more beautiful.
“Unless the lake is restored, no one will visit these food courts, as the lake is bad condition. The department should rethink about its decision and must divert the money in the right direction,” he said.
The locals of the area said it has been a long time since the department executed the deepening and cleaning of the lake. The deteriorating condition of the lake also irks people living in the locality.
The Lakes Conservation and Management Authority (LC&MA) department stated that they have contracted out both the repair and deepening and cleaning of the lake, and that after the repair of these existing structures, the safety will be outsourced.
According to a department official, there has been no response from local contractors yet because the tenders include some additional criteria.
“We are expecting the work on this lake to begin soon, and people as well as tourists visit this place again,” he said adding “efforts are being made to restore this lake as soon as possible so that it will become appealing and people again.”
