Srinagar, Apr 08: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq on Tuesday said the meeting between Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju at the Tulip Garden was not pre-scheduled.
“Omar Sahib had gone there as usual with his father, and the minister happened to be there at the same time,” he clarified while speaking to reporters outside the Assembly before the session commenced on Tuesday morning.
His remarks came in response to questions raised by opposition legislators regarding the Tulip Garden encounter between Omar Abdullah and Kiren Rijiju.
“PDP and (PC Chief) Sajad Lone are unnecessarily twisting this incident. First of all, they did not support us on the Waqf Bill. They supported the BJP,” he said. “Now that they have no real issue, they are resorting to irrelevant matters. Omar Sahib visited the garden with his father, as he usually does. The minister happened to be there at the same time. There was no scheduled meeting. So, it’s absolutely wrong to associate one with the other.”
The MLA added, “As far as the National Conference is concerned, we are not against individuals. We are against the policies of the BJP, as demonstrated in Parliament. We opposed them then, and we oppose them even today.”
Sadiq said that even today (Tuesday), 25 members have submitted an adjournment motion seeking discussion on the Waqf Amendment Act—just as many other assemblies have discussed policies like the Farm Laws, GST, NRC, and Article 370, all of which were passed by Parliament and were also taken up by the Supreme Court. “We still want the Speaker to consider this motion as the sense of the House and allow a discussion on these matters,” he added.
The NC leader made these comments in response to allegations from opposition members who questioned why a no-confidence motion hasn’t been brought against the Speaker despite protests from ruling legislators.
