Srinagar, Jan 30: The core group of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today took stock of the prevailing political situation in J&K and discussed organisational preparedness for taking up people’s issues in a more proactive manner.
The meeting held at party headquarters here under the chairmanship of party president Mehbooba Mufti also discussed the strategy for the upcoming general elections. The meeting, according to a spokesperson of the party reiterated its commitment to the unity of purpose and objectives under the banner of INDIA alliance of which it’s a part.
The spokesperson said the meeting discussed preliminary plans for the crucial elections that should result in amplifying the awareness about the problems facing the people of the region in the last six years of direct central rule and absence of democratic institutions. These elections should also in the opinion of the core group promote voices that can represent the sentiments of the people in highest democratic forum of our country and seek effective measures to restore its democratic rights.
It was decided at the meeting to resume the outreach programs of the party president and other leaders soon. Consultations would also be held with office bearers and senior leaders and prominent workers over various issues to restore Party’s premier position as a major and credible representative of people of all the regions of J&K. The core group expressed deep concern regarding the recent initiative by J&K Police to collect personal information from residents across various parts of Kashmir.
This intrusive measure, which involves soliciting details such as individuals’ names, vehicles, and contact information, has triggered widespread panic among citizens.
The People’s Democratic Party vehemently condemns this alarming development, denouncing it as a direct assault on the inherent rights and identity of ordinary Kashmiris. The party urged the administration to respect the privacy of individual citizens and alleviate the fears gripping the general public. PDP remains unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of the people of Kashmir and will continue to advocate for their welfare and security.
The members participating in the deliberations included Senior Vice President Ab Rehman Veeri, Chairman Parliamentary Board Mohd Sartaj Madni, General Secretary Organization Mehboob Beg, General Secretary Asia Naqash, senior leaders and former minster’s Naeem Akhtar, Ab Gaffar Sofi, and party youth President Waheed Para.
