Budgam, Apr 13: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday held a crucial convention at Soibugh in central Kashmir’s Budgam district to strengthen the party’s grassroots network and amplify public outreach initiatives.
The meeting, chaired by PDP Election Board Chairman Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura, brought together senior leaders, district functionaries and prominent workers, the party said in a statement issued here.
The convention was attended by several senior PDP leaders and prominent workers, including District President Budgam Mohammad Yasin, party leader Aga Syed Mehdi, Additional Spokesperson Zuhaib Mir, Arif Laigaroo, Ghulam Ahmad Khan, Fayaz Assad, Mr Malik and other party functionaries.
In his address, Hanjura emphasised the importance of organisational unity and urged the cadre to remain steadfast in upholding the party’s founding principles.
PDP General Secretary Mohammad Khurshid Alam reaffirmed the party’s unwavering commitment to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, stressing that the People’s Democratic Party “will continue to act as the voice of the voiceless and a guardian of democratic values”.
“Today, people are grappling with unfulfilled promises and rising disillusionment. The current dispensation has reduced governance to hollow announcements. It is our collective responsibility to hold them accountable and remind them of their commitments to the people,” he asserted.
Alam called upon party workers to intensify public outreach efforts and forge stronger bonds with the community. “Our greatest strength lies in the trust of our people. The PDP has always been a party of the masses, and we must renew our public connect at every level, from villages to towns, listening to people’s concerns and representing them with honesty and courage,” he said.
The PDP leader said there is a growing disconnect between the administration and the common man. “Governance must translate into relief and dignity for the common citizen. Unfortunately, the administration today thrives on photo-ops and scripted events, while the genuine issues of the people remain unheard. PDP will continue to stand as a voice of accountability and justice,” he maintained.
The event concluded with a pledge from the leadership and workers alike to carry forward the party’s mission of safeguarding the rights, dignity, and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the statement added.
