Srinagar Oct 27: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has expressed condolence over the demise of Nazir Ahmad Wani of Ahmed Wani Sahab of Bellow, Pulwama, who passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest on Sunday morning.
She termed him a “man of immense courage, dignity and compassion”. MLA Pulwama, Waheed Para while condoling the demise said Wani’s life was marked by resilience in the face of unimaginable hardship. In his tweet, he termed Nazir “a magistrate by profession, who was unjustly imprisoned under the UAPA for two long years, a punishment for daring to speak truth to power”.
Party leaders including the general secretary and the other leaders in their condolence message expressed deep grief over the loss. “Nazir Sahab was a shining example of quiet strength and integrity, a man who believed in justice and lived his life in service to those around him. His imprisonment was a grave injustice, and though he was ultimately acquitted, it came at a cost no one should have to bear. His passing is a loss not just for his family but for all those who believe in fairness and justice,” they said.
Several other senior PDP leaders and members of the political community expressed their condolences, remembering Wani’s “selflessness and tireless” efforts to advocate for those wrongfully detained. Despite his personal struggles, he campaigned tirelessly during elections, not for personal gain but out of a deep sense of loyalty and purpose, the party said. (KNS)
