Srinagar, Feb 07: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) convened a high-level meeting at its headquarters in Srinagar on Friday, focusing on what it described as the rising civilian killings and arbitrary arrests in Jammu and Kashmir under the pretext of security measures.
Chaired by PDP president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, the meeting addressed key political and organisational issues while emphasising the challenges faced by the people, the party said in a statement issued here.
Party leaders expressed concern over the prevailing security situation and called for immediate measures to safeguard civil liberties. As part of its outreach efforts, the PDP decided to launch a membership drive, set to begin on February 13 at the party’s Jammu office. Mufti urged leaders to extend the campaign across Jammu and Kashmir to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.
The meeting was attended by senior party functionaries, including PDP Vice President Mohammad Sartaj Madni, Parliamentary Board Chairman A.R. Veeri, General Secretaries Advocate Abdul Haq Khan, Rajinder Manhas, M.R. Qurashi, and Satpal Singh Charak. Other key leaders present included MLA Kupwara Mir Mohammad Fayaz, senior leaders Naeem Akhtar and Asiya Naqash, as well as Additional General Secretaries Advocate Nasir Hussain and Rajat Randhawa.
“The discussions underscored the party’s growing concerns over the political and security climate in the region, signaling an intensified push for its political agenda in the coming months,” the PDP said.
