Srinagar, July 30: An Imam (one who leads prayers at Masjid) from Pattan lost his life in a bike road accident in the Nowpora Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as (Molvi) Manzoor Ahmad Lone, 34, son of Ghulam Nabi Lone, a resident of Goshbugh Pattan, Baramulla.
He had gone to Nowpora village to drop off his wife and was returning back when he lost control of his motorcycle, resulting in critical injuries.
Locals took Lone to SDH Sopore and subsequently was referred to SKIMS Soura for treatment, however, doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile police have taken cognizance of the incident and have started an investigation.
Lone was Imam-o-Khateeb at Markazi Jamia Masjid Lolipora Pattan and has taught hundreds of students in north Kashmir.
Hilal Ahmad Yattoo, Lone’s friend, told Rising Kashmir that it is a big loss to the entire Pattan belt. He was an institution in itself.
“Lone was not just an ordinary Imam; he possessed profound wisdom and had an extensive understanding of Islamic teachings. Was respected in the community for his insights and guidance,” Hilal said.
His funeral prayers were attended by hundreds of people from Goshbugh and adjoining villages of Pattan sub division.
