Ganderbal, April 18: After five days of halted traffic due to avalanches at Zojila Pass, passenger vehicles were finally allowed to proceed towards Kargil on Thursday. Heavy rains and fresh snowfall had forced the temporary closure of the Ladakh highway, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded on both ends.
Efforts to clear the pass were spearheaded by Beacon from Sonamarg and Project Vijak from the Drass side, tirelessly working to remove snow and debris.
SO Traffic Police Sonmarg Farooq Ahmed, accompanied by his team, personally inspected the road conditions at Zojila Pass after the avalanche clearance.
Following the green signal from Beacon, only passenger vehicles were permitted to move from Sonmarg to Kargil.
Amidst the ordeal, the CRPF 118 Battalion Alpha Company in Gagangeer provided essential aid by arranging food for stranded passengers in Sonamarg, ensuring their well-being during the extended closure.
Bhrarath J, Assistant Commandant, and Inspector Ajit Ram Dogra, along with their team from CRPF 118 Battalion Alpha Company Gagangeer, promptly responded to the situation, distributing food items to travellers in Sonamarg.
