SRINAGAR, JUNE 15: An art exhibition titled ‘Capturing Serenity’ was today inaugurated at the Government Arts Emporium, Srinagar by the Director of Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir, Mahmood Ahmad Shah.

True to its name, the exhibition highlights a state of tranquility and quality.

This showcase which shall be open for general public till 16th afternoon, features the artistic endeavors of Mareehah Saleem, a 17-year-old student who has poured her heart into the curated selections, presenting a dynamic blend of creativity.

The Department of Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir has been proactive in organizing such exhibitions since Srinagar joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), celebrating the rich heritage of artistic expression.

Speaking at the event, Director of Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir described the exhibition as a testament to the diverse voices and visions shaping the contemporary art scene.

“Exhibitions like today’s underscore the synergies between various artistic practices, integrating traditional and contemporary approaches. Having a 17-year-old artist participate in such events helps young artists hone their skills, which can also be useful in their daily academic projects,” he remarked.
Beaming with pride at her debut exhibition, Mareehah thanked the department for providing her this incredible opportunity to highlight her art. The thoughtful comments about my work truly mean the world to me, she shared with visitors who stopped by to chat.

It is worth mentioning here that the departmental initiative ‘Know Your Artisan’ has provided numerous artisans with a platform to cultivate essential skills in branding, networking and raising public awareness. These exhibitions are crucial for fostering cultural exchange, encouraging dialogue and nurturing an investor appreciation for art. They present a unique opportunity to engage with creativity and explore innovative perspectives
